Hi. My father had a liver transplant in Aug. 2011. He has been in and out of hospital since. He has fluid retention that they are having a hard time finding out why. They checked his heart etc. Everything checks out fine. He is very tired and cannot get rid of fluid and has a hard time breathing because of this. They changed his meds from prograf to rappamune and cellcept now. They say that the fluid is in the tissues so they cannot tap him. Has anyone had this problem. We are getting very discouraged. |

Where is he retaining fluid? Is it in the abdomen, chest or arm/legs? If it is pulmonar/pleural effusion he needs to see a pulmonologist or chest surgeon. I assume that he is seeing a cardiologist since they've checked his heart, if not he needs to see one. I had similar issues and eventually had to have a lung procedure to resolve the problem Hang in there he'll get better, give it time but make sure you "push" the doctors. Bob

He is retaining fluid in his abdomen and legs. He did have a lung procedure done about 2 months ago. It did help and then it came back within a week or so. Thank you so much for the reply. |

Hey Marla My husband who is 6 years post transplant on July 4th has just spent the last year having terrible trouble with fluid issues needing a tap about every 3 weeks. In the end, thanks be to God, they changed around his meds and it would seem that his blood pressure medication was the culprit. He has now gone four months with no need for a tap and fluid issues seem to be completely resolved. |

Thank you so much. We were thinking about his meds and the doctors have switched his anti rejection meds from prograf to rappamune, so we will see. He does take blood pressure meds so maybe we will mention to the doctors. Thanks again. |
