Is the reference range of Tacrolimus supposed to be 4.0-12.0? What are other peoples trough levels? Do people get more infections now that they are on Anti-rejection drugs. Has anyone has had any rejection episodes? What are the doses of anti-rejection drugs people are on.

My understanding of the Tacrolimus level is that the level will be high after the transplant and be tapered off after a few years. My current level is around 5.
As for infections, I had a few for 2-3 years after the transplant and none after 4 years.

At 8 months I came down with what is called called Valley fever. Really knocked me for a loop. As it is a chronic condition I have another pill to take for life. Other than that I hven't even had a cold.
Tac level is between 4 and 6 after 18 months.

Your Drs will adjust Tacrolimus dosage as needed to achieve the level they think you should have, every one is different. After almost 6 years post I am on 1.5 mg of Tacrolimus and that maintains the Tacro level between 1.8 and 3.
I have a fever and shakes every once in a while due to (they think) narrowed bile duct, I take Ursodiol for that and it works pretty good. Also it is important to drink a lot of water ( in my case 1 gal) if your Drs have indicated to do so.

I did develop shingles once after my transplant. The only other infections that I have that I can definitely connect with the transplant was a continuing problem of developing candidiasis of the esophagus, but this has now been brought under control by taking Nystatin twice daily. I have only had a few very minor rejection episodes. I consider myself very fortunate in this.

I have no idea what my level is supposed to be...it was 9.4 in January and then 6.6 last month. I've been taking it since last June and they've had to adjust the dose a few times...too low, liver isn't happy, too high and kidneys dont like it.

Here is a link to Tacrolimus info.:

http://www.thedrugmonitor.com/tacro.html

As usual remember that the anything can be entered into a web page. Check the info against other medical sites. This information agrees with the info I have received from my Drs.
Always follow your Drs advice. Know your meds., the more you know about your meds and condition the better you can manage your health.

I think Dave gave good advice.
At two years post tp, taking .5 mg prograf twice daily, my trough level was 2-5.
Prograf is my only IS and I've had no rejection episodes.
Having just finished hep C tx successfully, my 3 year anniversary of my tp, is just around the corner and life is good !

I would concur with everyone else. Prograf has limited side effects, and really they are nothing compared to the alternative. Stick with the program, and don't ever adjust any of your medications by yourself.
