Hello. My father is 7 months post liver transplant. He has a fluid retention problem. He cannot get rid of fluids, he gained 20 lbs in one week. He ends up in the hospital with shortness of breath because of fluids building up, then they put a drain in and drain him, 2 weeks later it comes back. They cannot figure out what the cause is. He was changed from prograf to rapamune about a month ago. His creatine is around 2 like it has been running and his heart has mild aortic stenosis which the cardiologist says is not the cause. Any suggestions?? Has this happened to anyone else? We are so discouraged. Marla |

I had a"Chyle" leak, post liver/kidney transplant, 7 months ago. The Dr's made me NPO for several days, and fed me through a J-tube, with Nutri-Hep. I had Acites that had to be drained each week, for over 5 months pryor to my transplant. This is just my experience with fluid retention. Best wishes & Prayers!

Hi Marla, I had pleural effusion post tx, due to right lung (bottom) collapse. I had several extractions of fluid until a year post tx, when I underwent a procedure to correct the cause of the fluid build up. No more problems there after that. I did have mild aortic valve stenosis and eventually became severe, had the valve replaced in 2010, so far so good. My creatinine fluctuates between 1.5 and 2 most of the time, Drs recommend water to lower the creatinine. Follow Drs instructions on this issue.
