I am new to this site and joined to find help for my dad who has PSC. He is a veteran and received 2 liver transplants in 2006 just 1 month a part from each other through the VA hospital. He has recently been having some health issues over the past year. Last summer he started having severe itching along with chills and a fever. This has started to progress and last November he had horrible pain in his abdomen where his liver is. The pain was so bad that he was in the fetal position and rushed to the ER. Morphine was the only thing that seemed to help his pain (one thing you have to understand is my dad has a very high tolerance for pain he doesn't like to take any extra meds since he is on so many). He was put in the hospital and numerous tests were done the only thing they figured out was he has a hiatal hernia. He has had several episodes since then all consisting of the same symptoms chills, fever, & severe itching. I spoke with him this morning to see how he was doing because he had another spell that started on Saturday and lasted through last night. He said his stools are pale colored and he has dark urine. He once again had chills, fever, itching all over his body, diarrhea, headache, pain in liver area and loss of appetite. This is the longest spell he has had like this and his doctors either don't know what to do or just don't care. They say his labs are all normal. I told him to request copies so we can look at them and keep up with it. I just can't see how his levels are normal to me he is showing signs of rejection, is that possible after 8 years? Any help would be appreciated. We feel trapped because he has medicare but he won't go anywhere other than the VA hospital because of medical bill expenses. |

I does sound like a possible rejection issue. He or you need to be more persistent with his doctors. If they do not care make them care. When my Prograf levels go up my temp goes down and I start getting a constant headache. This summer I actually lowered it and that took take care of the problems I was having. I do well on a very low dose, 1/2 Mg twice per day and my level runs between 3-4. For a transplant to be 8 years out I would say this is not normal. JMHO Maverick PS I have a story to post about the VA and problems I just had but I am too tired now to post that issue. I'll pray for your father. I am a disabled veteran from the Vietnam War, past Director of the American Legion Riders here in Prescott, AZ.

are the doctors that are treating him, familiar with the diseases from the areas where he served while in the military. lots of people have come home with parasites and bacterial infections that do not present any symptoms for weeks or years after the are discharged.
