I just celebrated my five month heart/kidney tx anniversary yesterday and it was also my first day back to work in seven months! I'm only working a four hour shift three days a week but it's good just to get out of the house an back to some what of a normal life! My tx team also said I can start doing my labs every other week now too! I do have a question for all you fellow tx'ers, do you still do your vitals everyday and if not, how often do you take them? Tx team says I should do them daily but is that really necessary or is once a week enough? Your thoughts please!

Hi Hockey68, Congratulations on your five month heart/kidney anniversary, and also being back to work. As far as doing your vitals, I would do what your transplant center recommends. I definitely do not think once per week is enough at your stage, especially as you are a double organ transplant. Perhaps as time passes they will say it's OK to cut back. It doesn't hurt to be on the safe side. All the best to you, Meagan

I am 8 months out of kidney transplant and I still take my temperature, weigh myself and take my blood pressure every day and record it. I think it is a good habit that I developed out of necessity. The temperature lets me know the first signs of infection, the weight show increases due to Prograf (plus I have always had trouble with weight gain and am now at a weight I like so monitoring it helps) and I have high blood pressure. The only time I don't do it is when I am away on vacation but I take a thermometer with me in case I start to feel sick. miocean
