I very occasionally take 75mg baby aspirin (UK dose) typically before flying or periods of prolonged inactivity (which I try to avoid!).. Probably average about 2-3 aspirin per month .. maybe less. It is nephrotoxic (its an 'nsaid') and seems to make my kidneys leak a bit of protein for a day or two after I take it (excessively frothy urine) but I don't know whether it interferes with meds because I use it as little as I can. tc Keith |

I've been on it for a decade and I don't seem to have any problems. I take the 81mg size and my neph and tx center seem to be happy with it. Cora

Actually, I was told that I should not take aspirin or nsaids, at least, not on my own. However, if I have a problem that my normal pain killers will not solve (was told to use only tylenol), then, when I talk with my tx center, they give me permission to use nsaids--for three days only as directed on the bottle. (Usually 1 pill every 6 hours)

I take Aspirin 325mg daily. It's part of my post-TX med regimen. I asked the TX neph is I would stop taking that soon because it is an NSAID. He that such a small dose won't hurt. Besides it is given to avoid any blood clots to both my new kidney and pancreas. I recently ran out and kept forgetting to buy any. After a few days without aspirin, I started bruising badly. I even went my primary, I wanted to make sure I didn't have a collapse vein. My regular Naid to tell TX center that she recommends 81mg instead or taking 325mg every other day. Once I went back on my 325mg regimen the bruising stopped.

I have taken 81 mg aspirin for many years. My neph prescribed it as a heart helper when that news first came out. (Still had to buy "Baby" aspirin!) As a type 1 diabetic, I stick my fingers for blood sugar checks. I can tell by the richness of the red color of the blood whether or not I am taking it. Some medical procedures require one to stop all blood thinners and I, too, sometimes run out of it. I asked about taking a 325 mg tablet, but was told it would thin the blood too much. Marina, your bruising problem should seemingly be just the opposite of that. The thinner your blood, the more likelihood of blood vessel leakage. But, as we always say, Each of us is an individual. Richard, I completely agree with you about the bruising. That's the reason my Neph told me to talk to my TX center and tell them she recommends a lower dose. But it's funny the bruising I had came a few days after I ran out. It did take a couple weeks for the blood to reabsorb. LOL, when my dad saw one of the bruises (one huge on on my arm), has asked me "what happened" I told him I had no idea how it had happened. He was not satisfied with the answer. He asked "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW?" I told him I had no idea. He then asked "Did you get beat up by a boyfriend?" I said "NO" a couple minutes later he asked " did you get into a fight?" Okay I'm 45yrs old, it would be silly and ridiculous of me to get into a physical fight after transplant. Finally I said "I told you I don't know how it happened" I know it might've sounded mean, bur seriously, I'm not 5yrs old, besides I had already told him I didn't know. As soon as I started back on it, I've had no more bruising. Yeah too weird.

Marina I've almost quit getting the third degree for the big bruises. Obviously, you are not married. Mates get blamed for any unexplained bruising, ya know. Once in a while, I can explain a bruise, but not often. Inasmuch as I used prednisone for the first 21 years of my transplant life. Four years after getting off pred, I still get them. I was told i would for the rest of my life. Oh, Well! It's our dues for a wonderful gift. Richard

BM...Aspirin is a blood thinner...i.e. it makes the platelets less sticky so most people get more bruises and less clots. My neph told me not to take aspirin for pain but to use Tylenol

Marina,Thank your lucky stars that your dad is still around and loves you so much that he would try to find out how you got the bruises. Before my Dad died and he would see my arms and legs covered in bruises he would check with my neighbors to make sure I was not covering for a boyfriend.

I take two 81 mg aspirin tablets each night. It has been recommended by many doctors including my transplant team. In my opinion, the concerns about aspirin are overblown, No one should take 650 mg, 2 to 4 times every day for weeks at a time, but occasional use is not harmful at all. I take as needed, once or twice a month for arthritic pain. It works much better than anything else. But no one should take it every day in pain killing or anti-inflammatory doses |

I take 75 mg daily. My neph started it after some five months post tx. I always thought why he is giving me aspirin and I thought I was a special case and nobody else takes this med. But now I am glad to see that I am not alone.
