Hi Rita, add me to the prayers, hugs and best wishes. I just got back from 4 hours of testing as well. The usual weekly labs redone today, as well as an ultrasound on a full bladder, that took about an hour, and waiting on a kit from Seattle for a donor specific antigen test. My creatinine went up as well. Please don't let fear or worry steal your peace, and know that if you let it, it also will steal your ability to be alert to make good decisions. Blessings, stay strong, know you have all of us with you! Heather

Hello Everyone, Thank you for all of your prayers and support. So after a day of being upset I am ready to be my old self again. So I am looking at everything with a thankful heart and blessed to have so many caring people I love in my life. I am in kidney failure, I need to go for EPO shots because I have anemia, provided I do not have a GI bleed. My creation number is 3.07 my Bun is 89 and my GFR is 16. So the doctor told me to sign up for pre-transplant, and that this kidney may have a year left before I have to go on dialysis. Not the best news, however I was on this road before, I have inner strength and wonderful people like my family and friends in my life and all of you here. So am I extreamly blessed! Hard to be in the dumps when you have been given so much in life. I am sure I will have my boo hoo for me days but that usually doesn't last too long based upon my past of who I am. I am going to go on short term disability for work for now and see how it goes. My working with children is a big part of who I am and how I feel about myself, however I do not want the children and parents to be effected by my health so I did call work yesterday and talk to my boss who is the best and short term disability is the way that would be best for all so they could get a teacher in my class. So I feel better that they will be taken care of, --one life touches many-- and I love those children dearly! I could use help out there is anyone knows anything about SS for disability. Thanks. From what I hear you cant get it till you are actually on dialysis.I was just looking for information. Thanks. Thank you all for your support. It is so nice that we all have each other. Thank you all for your kind and loving hears.. Wishing you all the best. Rita

Rita...stay strong. Your outlook inspires me, and I admire you and your courage. I will keep the prayers and good thoughts coming your way. You should qualify for SSD if your creatnine is a certain number for 3 months....I forgot exactly what the number has to be, but you will continue to be eligible for SSD while you are on dialysis, and from what I understand, up to a year after transplant if you need. Just check the Social Security website for specifics for kidney failure. Love you!! Kim

Rita, Here is a link to SSD http://ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/listing-impairments.htm I can't help with when you qualify since my kidneys failed suddenly. I do remember it took several months to kick in. I was a teacher and used my sick leave for several months and it just happened that SSD started the same time my sick leave ran out. I was so sick I don't remember all the details. I am so sorry that you have to deal with this but am inspired by your strength and courage. We all have been given a gift and always hope it will remain forever. miocean

Thank you all for all your support. Duane, yes I am always open to prayer, how loving of you. Today I am going down to Social Security, Miocean I did call social security and I have to tell you the were more than kind. This has been my third in person interaction with them since 1992 and they always have been so nice. I am not a glass half empty type of person, but somewhere in my mind I always expect them to be less than compassionate with me, which they have never given me a reason to think that way. With me it is a whole mental thing, I guess to be a giver and not a taker, even though many say Rita you have a right to ask in for this, given your situation. To me it is amazing at 55, a grown women, you still have your parents in your head--as if I was a child, "stand on your own 2 feet, do not take from others, be independent". It is all about the growing process, letting go or changing ones thinking even when you are 55. So I am looking at this as I am growing because I am over coming another Script that I have given myself to live within my comfort zone in my own head and expanding me and my thinking. Thanks for letting me babble. Wishing you the best.
