January 2009 I had a Kidney Transplant, blood tests, blood creatine and every thing was else looking really good. Before getting on the "waiting list" we all go thur tests that comes with being listed. My Heart Stress Test looked good, I asked. Now three and a half years later I need quadruple bypass surgery which is being done Tuesday Jan.24, 2012. I only developed chest pain in Nov. 2011. This past summer I climbed some mountain in the Smoky Mountains with no problem, during Christmas break I went to DC and walked around for two days with some, not a lot, pain,,I am 61. Any one heard of this kind of story ? I will check in a couple of weeks...rich,,thanks |

Sorry, I had my heart issues before. I was without symptoms beforehand but my center required all folks with diabetes more than 25 years to undergo an angiogram. I had to have 2 stents before my transplant and I never would have known. Cora

I doubt if your clogged arteries are a result of your transplant. Plaque builds up in arteries over decades. I think your situation falls under the idea that you're fine until one day you reach a critical mass of plaque and then you're not okay. Good luck with your operation.

I agree with Gene. This sort of thing doesn't develop overnight. It's possible that the stress test didn't show anything but there was something there. This is always a possibility. Cora

Most important thing to do is to exercise, walk|jog|running, keep the heart working strong. When I slack off, I start getting chest pains. Like now, when its winter and too cold.

On the other hand, I know certain immunosuppressants - Cyclosporin and Tacrolimus - can accelerate the hardening of the arteries (and perhaps atherosclerotic plague too). Where you on these drugs Rich? Carl. |

Diet is so very very important in this country of processed, unhealthy foods. It's just a shame how people suffer (including those without kidney disease) that could easily be prevented. Now that we have to take these drugs, all the more reason to eat to live rather than live to eat. How is your diet?

Amen. Diet and exercise can go a long way toward maintaining health. Children are being stricken by some of the problems that fifty years ago, only adults had difficulty with. It was an unfortunate thing for me that I found out the way that I did. But having experienced those problems, I am trying as hard as I can to alleviate any future problems. I lost ba whole bunch of weight and now, I do what I can for my health. Is that enough? Who knows. I want to wish you the best. Good luck.

Yep that is what happened to my dad's best friend when he was about that age. He had been for a check up at the cardiologist a year or so before and got a clean bill of health. He took a trip out to Park City Utah and he went on a hike in the mountains and realized something was wrong because he was having chest pains. When he got home he went to see the doc and they told him he needed five bypasses. He is 75 now and doing fine. |
