Ladies, I am just starting into menopause and wondering if anyone can tell me if transplant patients can take estrogen replacement. |

Estrogen replacement therapy and hormone replacement therapy have been known to increase the risk for cancer as does anti-rejection medications. Check with your transplant team before you take anything. Good luck with the menopause and I hope you go easily through it. It was a breeze for me, although I did go on hormone replacement therapy for a couple of months. However, that was 8 years before my transplant. miocean

I talked to my team shortly after I had my transplant 6 months ago and they advised against any hormones. I wonder if there are some more natural ways to get through this?

Interesting. I had chemotherapy induced menopause from the stem cell transplant. I was 45 and had never missed a period in my life, expect when I was pregnant (miscarried). I even menstruated normally through dialysis and after my bilateral nephrectomy. But I got my period the day after my transplant and never had another one. I had hot flashes for the first 6 months or so, which I could also attribute to chemo and recovery. I haven't felt a thing since...no menopause related symptoms except seom sexual side effects. So I use a vaginal estrogen cream and things seem to be improving in that area. But I have become a fanatic about exercising and eating right and taking various supplements. I wonder if that has helped ease the symptoms or if being flung into menopause instead of eased into it. It's been a year and a half and I feel pretty good...and relieved not to have PMS anymore! |
