Not really. I take 2.5 mg prednisone, 2mg /2 mg prograf, Multivitamin, Vit D, Gli[pizide 2.5 mg, Pravistatin 10mg, Famotidine 20 mg and Metropolol 12.5mg/12.5 mg. Considering what I was using pretransplant, I don't feel that badly about what I take, especially since two are vitamins.

I take a lot of meds, but I don't feel overdosed because I need all this stuff. As for the transplant, I don't take much for it - it's all my other stuff. I take rapamune, myfortic, nexium, domperidone, reglan, lipitor, folic acid, iron, vitamin D, calcium, prolia, and aranesp. Cora

2 Rapamune 1 mg daily (both @ 7am) 5 Cellcept 250 mg daily (3 @ 7am, 2 @ 7pm) I was just looking at what I used to have to take and definitely celebrate every two weeks when I set up my meds. It used to be a process, now just a simple task! Almost two years out and creatinine of 1.1-1.2

At six months, (three weeks ago) I went off of acylivir, and Bactrin, so I am only on Prograf and Myfortic now. Yes, I feel the side effects...... but a year ago, I was miserable, getting used to dialysis. I don't consider the Vit D and other supplements as a drug.

Ivy, As they have mentioned, Cr. of 124 at 17 years post transplant is great. From the looks of it most of your medication isn't for your kidney. Only the 75mg cyclo twice a day and 25mg azathioprine are for your transplant, which are both quite low. It's the other drugs for anti-depression, high BP, stomach stuff, and gout that actually make up most of your meds. It is probably one of these that is causing your issues. I don't know what you mean by zonked out, but as for being weak and foggy, this shouldn't be the case. My doc always tells me that part of their (the doc's) kidney transplant job is to make sure we have good quality of life. And being zonked out, weak and foggy most of the time does not fit that description. I suggest you explain what is happening with your doc and let him/her figure out which drug is causing the side effects, and he/she ought to be able to remedy it.

You know, in January, for some reason (maybe a UTI?) my bp went up, so I got on Bystolic, but I weaned myself off of it by really tightening up my diet and working on very clean, healthy nutrition. I haven't gotten as much exercise as I WANT (broke the records for snowfall in Alaska this year) but that's what I am working on..... I haven't taken any bp meds for about a month. It's a worthy goal, for our health, being careful to NOT consume anything that messes with our drugs, and eat to live......

The zonked bit might be the citalopram tbh. It uses the exact same enyzme for metabolism as tacro - the cyp3a4 (I know you're cyclo but I think it uses that enzyme too - just not 100% sure). In my case when citalopram was used while I was taking tacro I found that that my tacro troughs were unchanged and there were no problems from that, but it was explained to me that as a result the citalopram would be hanging aaround in my body a lot longer and therefore having a bigger effect than it might if I wasnt taking tacro. If you're going to ask the nephs about it then maybe ask if the citalopram interacts with cyclo in a similar way ? |
