I'm a kidney transplanted and I've been hit very hard last night...if we will put aside all the check that im going to do, im asking you how can I protect my kidney? it's infront in the body, with actually nothing protecting her, except some fat, are they're any special belts? or something of that kind Thanks |

Hi Slavic, There is no special protection equipment that I know of to protect the transplanted kidney. There is not much natural protection for native kidneys either. You just have to be careful, I suppose. If you had a "hit" to that area, you should inform your TX team and they will evaluate if any damage was done. I hope you will be fine and stay healthy! |

If this is a sports related blow then I would suggest using protection. At the time of my transplant, and for awhile afterwards, I was driven by participation in various sports. I purchased a protective karate kidney belt from Century Sports (Everlast is another source) and wore it when I participated. The downside is that sweat cannot escape from under it and you may develop a rash if it is worn too long.

I did Krav Maga and karate for a few years in my younger days and never got hit or kicked in the kidney. Krav Maga was pretty full on with throwing and lots of hip movements/contact so you have to train with people you know and change your priorities when defending your weak spots - I did sometimes wear a padded weight lifting belt back the front but don’t know how much it would protect kidney from a direct hit. |

I play ice hockey and I find the hockey pants have pretty good protection in the front where my transplanted kidney is.

They have a protective belt that is about four inches wide and about a half inch of padding in it. My recipient was instructed to get it when we wanted to begin playing softball again. |

I've been hit in my liver hard a few times over the years and she hasn't seemed to show any injury from it. If you are concerned, I'd bring it up to the doctor and have him check you out.
