I'm trying to get some information regarding moving and traveling after having a kidney transplant. 1. Has anyone anyone moved residence post transplant. Preferably experiences that involve moving significant distance, like to other states or countries? 2. Do a good amount of traveling or travel regularly, be it for work or vacation. I considering a job that is significantly better than what I have now and one that's more interesting. The thing is, it requires moving to another country, though not too far from where I am now, around a couple or so hours by plane. It will also require some traveling to visit and check on companies on a regular basis. I'm not so sure how difficult it is to move, considering issues like finding a new center and doctor, figuring out all the other added logistical issues that may affect being a transplant patient. The second question has to do with safety of traveling being a transplant and the risks that can come with it if done on a very regular basis. I've seen and heard of some transplant patients doing significant amount of traveling but haven't done so myself, thus the concern. I'd appreciate your comments, experiences, tips and anything regarding these matters. Thanks.

I both moved and have traveled out of the country post transplant. I had my transplant at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Three months later I moved to San Diego CA for a couple of months and then to New Jersey. I just called the area I was moving to ahead of time and established a Doctor beforehand. My transplant was 2 years ago and have since traveled to Jamaica. As long as your meds are working and you get established with a reputable Doctor ahead of time, you should be fine. I would seriously take into consideration the country you will be moving to and how much they know about transplants. I would be comfortable with a move if there was a transplant center nearby. If I was hours away from a transplant center, I am not sure if I would go. I hope this helps. Pam
