Got a letter from our transplant center yesterday asking me to fill out a questionnaire, to arrive shortly, for a research project concerning my "medical care and general health" since donating.

Wondered if anyone else got such a request, or if this is just for Saint Barnabas. I've been absent for a bit, so forgive me if I missed an earlier posting on the subject.

I've received surveys from my transplant center about every six months for the past two years. It seems with more recent transplants hospitals have become more concerned and interested in the post transplant health of donors. That's a good thing! Following and reporting on such information will certainly increase the number of people who will consider being a living donor.

Glad your center is keeping tabs, Chad. This is the first peep I've heard from our center since I donated more than nine years ago.

None from mine either. I will give them credit - whenever we go to Cisco's appointments they at least remember that I donated and always ask if I am doing okay or if I have any problems. His coordinator is always a sweetie and asks after me too.

I rcv'd a questionaire from the transplant center right after, haven't heard a word from them since. The questionaire mostly had to do with the "business" end of things...Was I treated nice, would I recommend the facility..blah blah blah...No follow-up with me since then at all.

I'll add the questionnaire was about my physical AND mental health and ability to return to pre-transplant activities. Physically my body has known no difference with one verses two kidneys but I'm pretty much crazy as ever ... not much they can do for that.

I am in a mandatory 5 year life study which is conducted at 1 month, 6 months, then annually after donation.

The questions are repetitive and most don't really apply to life now. For example: how much money was spent on transportation during the testing and donation time. I don't even remember that anymore.

Got the questionnaire, sent it back.

It was pretty much as you describe, Dawn. Lots of questions about the business end, although I do think that's very important, because the financial burden on the donor (and potentially the donor's family) is something that almost every donor has to consider.

But in this questionnaire, they didn't really ask the right questions, so in the "other comments" section I gave them an essay.
