this week i've been traveling on business and
last night with my business completed - I began
wondering what thoughts and feelings the recipient would be having in regards to our upcoming date.

I wonder if the recipient is pondering the same kind of thoughts about an annoymous donor

I must have danced with this thought most of the
night because it was the first thought I awoke with....

not sure why I'm posting this - I guess just
felt like sharing

Not sure about your recipient but can imagine his/her thoughts aren't much different than the young woman who received her new kidney from me. She had been waiting a very long time and had several false starts with other potential donors and her health was declining rapidly. Up until the time she was anesthetized she just kept hoping, "please, please don't let him back out."

If I could have talked with her before (she only had two days notice and since it was non-directed we couldn't have any pre-donation contact) I would have told her this is going to happen - as certain as the sun rises every morning. Judging from what I've heard from you Max, I'm thinking you'd say the same thing.

thanks chad - and yes, you are definitely right, I would want to reassure them that this was a for sure thing. What's really interesting is some of thoughts i'm having - my wife has always maintained that i'm an over-thinker.

I've personally never known anyone needing any type of organ - and so by finding this site and reading what the recipients have posted - coupled with my donation date getting closer - I really think the magnitude of what's about to happen - is really starting to set in.

Your date is Oct. 20 and mine was Oct. 5 - October is a good month! This year is the third anniversary.

While I got the surgery date one month prior, the original recipient suddenly came up as not matching - something in his/her blood chemistry suddenly went south. They tested several times with the same results. At that point they had to break the sad news to him/her and ask if I wanted to wait or proceed with a different recipient. While heartbroken for the first person I saw no point in waiting with a non-directed donation. Just go to the next name on the list. Hence the short notice. In some ways perhaps it was better for the recipient. She had a day and a half to process everything. I'm sharing this so you know the best-made plans don't always come off without a hitch. There are a lot of variables with organ transplantation and the planets have to align just right for it to happen. Stay the course and don't over think things because there will probably be some bumps in the road.

You'll do just fine Max.
