Hi, my husband will become a living liver in the next few weeks. Can anyone who was a living donor tell me how their recovery was afterward? Catherine |

Hello Catherine, First and foremost I salute the bravery of you and your husband. Please check two areas of this site: - up top is the Search box - enter living liver donor and you will find some older entries at this site that may prove helpful and also some other areas you can check - also go to the Support Forum box, click on it, enter the Liver area and you will find numerous Threads that may provide information that is helpful. Please keep us posted as to how your husband and you are doing post-surgery. God Bless you both.

Thank you Jack, and hello to everyone else here, I'll take a look on the site in the places you have recommended. (This is my first day on the site.) It warms my heart to see all the people who are doing so well after receiving their transplants. It's hard not to be a bit worried, though. I'll keep you posted, Catherine ps hopefully in the next couple of weeks |

Catherine, Your anxiety is normal. When, in representing the Gift of Life, talking with groups or posting within this web site the subject of caregivers/family is always present. As time allows and you go through this site you may note numerous postings from and of regarding spouses, children, of Living Donors, pre and post Transplant recipients commenting on this issue. Yes we as recipients tend to do well and Living Donors also do very well so hopefully some of the burden can be relieved. "Without bravery all other of our attributes remain meaningless" Sir Winston Churchill. Merry Christmas

Hi Catherine, Welcome to our family! I am a living liver donor, hence the name, LiverGiver. Your husband is donating but are you the recipient? Maybe I missed it but I am curious as to who he is donating to. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have in respect to my experience, recovery, and life 3 years out. Ask away! If you prefer to talk on the phone let me know and my number will be at your service. We also have Nicole and Tawyna in our circle of living liver donors. I will let them speak for themselves but I really don't think you can expect to hear that any of us wouldn't do it again in a moments notice! So once again, I welcome you and your husband to txbuddies. We have been referred to as mother hens now and again but we do prefer cougars protecting our cubs!!! Looking forward to getting to know both you and your husband! By the way, what state are you located in. I am in RI, Nicole~ NY, and Tawnya~sunny CA

Hi Catherine, Welcome to txbuddies. I am a live live donor. I donated 8 months ago to my father. He is doing great and I feel like the surgery never happened. I recovered with ease. I had zero complications and after 2 months, I was back at the gym; just doing everything again. I posted my experience from the second I left to go to the hospital and during my recovery, here on txbuddies. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask me or any of the other live liver donors. I would love to hear more about your husbands story. Post if you can. Two weeks can fly by and the surgery date is around the corner, but we all hope to hear from you soon. Stay positive and strong. Best wishes to you both. Tawnya |

Hi Catherine!, I'm pretty much just going to repeat my girls Tawnya and Dawn. I am 27 years old and I live in the Bronx NY. I donated the Right lobe of my liver about a year and a half ago to my dad. We are both feeling great!! Recovery was long for me, not painful just long and tiring, but everyone is different! I was back at work about 4 mos after surgery..and now my only reminder is my scar! Donating has changed my life in ways I never even imagined and i would do it 10x again! Keep us posted and feel free to email or call me whenever! God Bless Nicole

Not to be left out - this is kidney donor #3 chiming in. Nice to have you with us Catherine. From what I've read here it seems true that liver donation most definitely has a different angle on it. Perhaps more technical in terms of surgery and longer recovery. Your willingness to step forward is incredible and heroic. Learn all you can - lots of experience and many friends here. Welcome!
