Guys, I was talking to a couple the other day and the husband (who donated to his wife), mentioned that all is well, albeit he had less energy than before and seemed to get more tired easily since his donation about 4 years ago. His labs are good though, so he's not really sure why. He's a bit annoyed because his work requires some physical activity so he'd get worn out by the week or end of certain days as opposed to before donation. Could those who've donated share some of the issues they've had post donation, and how, if they've been able to diagnose the cause of the issues. Also, what have you done since donating to keep your health in check. Thanks.

I have the same problem. post surgery, I slept 18 hours a day. for about three months. then I went back to work and all I did was sleep and work. it was at times physically demanding, but I was exhausted after climbing up the stairs, or walking through the store. I asked my doctor and they said that was completely normal. Its been a year now, and I am still super tired all the time. I am working on training myself to stay awake, but I still fatigue easily. I joined a gym and started going in the morning before work and that seems to help a little since it gets the blood pumping but that only lasts a few hours before I get tired again. and other days I cant bring myself to get out of bed in time to go. It is very hard to cope with and I was hoping it would go away in time, but sounds like I better get used to it. Mainly I try and keep active through the day, with just a nice walk around the building, or go to the roof to relax for a minute. Hope he feels better soon! |

I've been battling ups and downs since the surgery last July. I had to go in for out-patient surgery about a month ago as an internal suture was causing chronic infections. I've noticed a lot of the pain I was having at the incision site has been reduced. Energy wise it varies as well. I'm trying to get my diet straight and a decent exercise program back into the swing but I have struggled. I used to work out in the mornings; however, post-op I've had a hard time getting up early enough to do it. I don't know if it's from the surgery or a combination of the surgery, getting older and still pulling down 60 hour per week minimums over two jobs.

I guess I am pretty lucky because I feel that my energy got back to normal in less than 1 year. I was very sleepy for the first month. I still didnt do much activity for the following 2-3 months, but I made efforts to go for walks, some basic yoga, etc. I did some tougher workouts about 5 months post-op, but they were not frequent! I'd say I was overall pretty lethargic for a solid 8-10 months. I'm sorry to hear your friends hasn't gotten his energy back 4 yrs post op. It sounds like he is doing the right things. Stays active, labs are good. Hmmm. Eating healthy? Too much caffeine stopping him from sleeping well?
